NOVAK DJOKOVIC SURVIVES TOUGH CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH WITH MATTEO BERRETTINI TO WIN WIMBLEDON

Novak Djokovic faced Matteo Berrettini in the Wimbledon Men's Final on Sunday at Centre Court in London. Djokovic was seeking his 20th major win to tie him with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer for the most majors won by a men's tennis player. Nadal didn't play in Wimbledon this year because there was only a 2 week seperation between the French Open and Wimbledon when there is normally 3 weeks, which allows him to get ready for Wimbledon. He dropped out and now has his eyes set on the US Open. Federer lost in the quarterfinals to Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets, 3-6, 6-7, 0-6. Berrettini then beat Hurkacz in the semifinals while Djokovic beat Denis Shapovalov to make the final. The final was set: #7 Berrettini v. #1 Djokovic.

Berrettini was really fast with his serves, touching 135 MPH, and had 16 aces opposed to Djokovic's 6. Matteo won the first set that ended with a tiebreaker, 7-7 - 6-4. Djokovic has had 1 other match at Wimbledon this year where he lost the first set. It was in the first round where he faced Jack Draper, and won, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. Matteo was 5-0 when he won the first set of matches he played at Wimbledon this year. He never lost the first set throughout the tourney. The final was very fun to watch.

Djokovic regained his footing in the 2nd set, but Berrettini was closely following. If Djokovic won a game, Berrettini responded by winning a game. Djokovic caught on in the second set and got past him to win, but not easily. With Berrettini's insanely fast serve speed and percision, Djokovic had a hard time when Matteo was serving. But, a hard time for Novak is not really a hard time , though, I must mention. Berrettini won 93 points while serving, but Novak had 61 recieving points. Berrettini won 15 out of 18 games when serving. Novak had control when he was serving with Berrettini scoring only 38 points when he recieved. Novak won 84 points when he was serving, and won 18 of 24 games when he was serving. Djokovic had 4 double faults while Berrettini had only 3. Djokovic also won 6 of 15 break points while Matteo only won 2 of 7. Djokovic and Berrettini put on a performance to usher in the Olympics. Djokovic put on a performance to show the US Open will be the one to watch. It will be Nadal v. Federer v. Djokovic for the quest to being the man with most major wins.
